Neon has officially launched support for local payments in India, thanks to a new partnership with Razorpay, India’s premier payment service provider. With this integration, game studios using Neon can now accept payments from players in India through UPI, local credit and debit cards, and other widely used methods.
This partnership brings Neon’s PSP network to seven global providers: Razorpay, Stripe, PayPal, Paysafe, dLocal, bamboo, and Komoju, covering over 99% of global mobile game spend.
Why India Matters for Mobile Games
India is already the largest mobile gaming market globally by volume. In FY 2024–25 alone, the country saw a record-breaking 8.45 billion app installs. Yet, when it comes to monetization, there is still massive untapped potential. Total in-app purchase (IAP) revenue stands at approximately $400 million, but continues to grow rapidly.
One key DTC growth driver is India’s dominant digital payment method: UPI. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) accounted for a staggering 83% of all digital transactions in India last fiscal year, representing over 186 billion transactions. Any game publisher looking to build a serious DTC (direct-to-consumer) presence in India needs to support UPI.
What the Razorpay Partnership Unlocks
With Razorpay’s Online Payment Gateway now integrated into Neon’s platform, Indian players can pay in Indian rupees using:
UPI-enabled apps and wallets
Credit and debit cards
This is more than just access to new payment methods. Through its Merchant of Record (MoR) model, Neon manages tax compliance, fraud protection, dispute resolution, and checkout experiences on behalf of the publisher. Because Razorpay complies with the RBI’s PA-CB framework, Neon is also able to provide timely and secure cross-border remittance, which is a crucial capability for global game studios.
A Word from Neon
Chris Faught, Founder and CEO of Neon, put it simply:
“India represents one of the most exciting growth opportunities in gaming today: a massive, mobile-first audience, now reachable through efficient direct-to-consumer payments. This is exactly why we built Neon. With Razorpay, we’re unlocking both scale and margin for our clients, while giving players in India the seamless, local experiences they expect.”
Looking Ahead
For studios ready to grow their revenue and connect more directly with Indian players, this is a major step forward. If you’re considering DTC in India, supporting UPI and local currency is no longer optional, it’s essential.
